This new program, produced by ItSelf Media, was shot on location in Sweden at Stromshölm, the Swedish national riding school, in the library at Livrustkammaren, Castle of Stockholm, and at the Castle of Skokloster, as well as in front of a clinic audience at Hogdalen riding academy.
The two volume program explores dressage history, theory and practical application. Starting with the history of equitation in the western world, Craig Stevens brings us century by century through the development of riding, showing where it began, what forces influenced it through time, and who the people and personalities were that brought riding to the modern methods we're familiar with today. He demystifies riding, showing the thought processes behind the decisions made to create the different styles and approaches.
Craig then introduces the language of equitation, exploring the horse's mind, how it interacts with the rider's mind, and the conversations that can be created between two sentient beings when the psychology of each is well understood.
And finally he introduces us to the aids and to the effects of the reins. He goes into the theory and application of the direct rein, indirect rein, and half halt, exploring how these rein effects work with the horse's mind to shift the weight to the chosen "corner", making movements easier or harder as the rider chooses. From a profound understanding of these rein aids, all the higher level work can be accomplished. Craig walks us through the classical approach to the shoulder in and half pass, giving the rider a new way to frame these simple, basic and fundamental movements toward suppling and balancing the horse.
