Studying Equitation at NSAE

What makes us different? The work we do at NSAE is centered around decades of investigation into lightness. Craig Stevens' scholarship has developed a method of teaching and training classical riding, a method that is at once at the cutting edge of modern riding technique-- and centuries old.  Craig teaches riders from the most beginning level through to masters classes, and the staff instructors he's trained offer a level of excellence in riding instruction that is hard to find in the US. The horses also are trained to a high degree- each is capable of piaffe, passage and flying changes. And, because balance is the first lesson taught, the horses remain fresh and ready to respond as the rider develops.

Childrens' Lessons:

As a parent you'll appreciate our outstanding safety record, and both you and your child will enjoy the warm atmosphere at the barn. Over time, your child will develop an amazing seat, and a kind of light yet absolute control that has nothing to do with his or her size or strength. Our commitment is that each child will have a wonderful time and stay remarkably safe while learning to ride brilliantly among people who care about children and horses.

Adults Lessons:

As adults we can appreciate some of the finer points of what we're working with, and especially if we've had modern riding lessons, the difference quickly becomes evident. Many of our adult riders are returning to equitation after time away, or taking it up for the first time. You don't have to be physically fit to ride well, although it makes it easier. Nor do you have to be young and flexible, again, it's easier - but so is putting on your shoes, and we don't go barefoot just because we've become a certain age.

Riding is for everyone.

At NSAE there's no pressure to be perfect, there's just an ongoing delight in the discovery process inherent in time spent in the company of horses.
